SABR SATURDAY
Ya Allah (swt) please grant us all a peaceful perseverance, Ameen.
Last week I was feeling rather existentially exhausted being my own 'knight in shining armour' - a constant my whole adult life. I was feeling incredibly sorry for myself and just a bit envious of a few sisters I knew who had husbands backing then with love, practical help and finances.
Then Allah (swt) puts in my path as a test a highly successful, well paid, educated, pious Muslim man who looked to be unbelievably a knight in shining armour... except that upon me asking - "are you married" - he reveals a wonderful woman, his wife of decades, his wonderful grown children, his grandchild and the luxurious life Allah (swt) afforded them.
Now if I were 'that' kind of woman who has no issue destroying marriages either as a mistress or second wife - I suppose I could have 'played' it out. Indeed my nafs did get a boost of much-needed admiration - Lord knows the 3 main men in my life never actually admired me.
But I asked Allah (swt) for strength to do the right thing - put a stop to what could have turned into a disaster for all involved and Allah (swt) instead has replaced this with a bit more energy, a bit more of a push so I can get my own darn white horse, put my own darn armour on and save myself.
That to me is a big lesson in Sabr.
What is YOUR big lesson in Sabr this week?
